Robert C. Johnstone - 1988

  A Denver native, Bob Johnstone began his skiing career at age 14.  While at the University of Denver, Bob was a member of the Pioneer Ski Club and instrumental in developing D.U. Ski Week and an intercollegiate ski program involving Denver University, Colorado College, Colorado School of Mines, and Colorado State University.   Following six years in the U.S. Navy, he returned to Denver in 1946, and became a National Ski Patrolman, President of the Zipfelberger Ski Club, Chairman of the Southern Rocky Mountain Ski Association Junior Ski Committee, and from 1951 to 1953, served as President of the S.R.M.S.A. In 1950, Bob was named a Charter Member of the Board of Trustees of Winter Park, serving on the Executive Committee beginning in 1960. He was elected Vice Chairman of the Board in 1975 and maintained that position for many years. His involvement with Winter Park included responsibilities for Construction and Planning from 1953-75, and membership of the Board of the Sports and Learning Center for the Winter Park Handicap Program. He served as a member of the Board for the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum since 1980 and was elected President in 1982.  Bob received several skiing related awards, including the Rocky Mountain Halstead Memorial Award in 1952, the Russell Wilder Memorial Award in 1956, and in 1959, the Julius Blegan Award given for outstanding services to skiing in the United States.   (Deceased)
