Donald S. Fowler - Sport Builder - 1983

Born in 1914 in Canada, Don, a former United Airlines executive, is credited with having made a dynamic impact on the Colorado Ski industry. He is the individual responsible for bringing the travel and ski industries together for the first time in the early 1960's.  Counted among his accomplishments are: the establishments of the first Ski Information Centers in airports, which provided snow and road conditions to traveling skiers; the development of ski boxes and ski check-in counters for travelers; the organization of the first ski package plans in the airline industry; the organization of central reservations systems; assistance in the formation of Colorado Ski Country USA, where he was the only non-ski area operator to serve as president; the development of Colorado's first promotional ski films; and the initiation of ski familiarization trips for travel agents and airline sales people.  At a time when there were no organized facilities for the ski traveler in the airline industry, Don brought his industry and the ski industry together to make traveling to Colorado a pleasure for the skier. Don has received the Silver Aspen Award for his “dynamic contributions to the Colorado Tourist Industry,” and was named to the original Colorado Olympic Commission. (Deceased)
