Dick Durrance - Sport Builder - 1982

Colorado is a far cry from Dick's birthplace in Tarpon Springs, Florida.  He saw his first snow at age 13 when he lived in Germany .  He became the first German Junior Champion and later raced on the German National Team. After returning from Germany, he won a scholarship to Dartmouth, where he won a total of 17 National Championships and was the first winner of the National Four-Way Combined title.He won the coveted Harriman Cup three times, which gives him permanent possession.  Dick was the co-developer of the Alta Ski Area and was a director of Experimental Winter Survival Training of the US Army Paratroops. He and his wife Margaret have lived in Colorado since 1945, at which time he became one of the founders of Arapahoe Basin, and from 1947-52 was General Manager of the Aspen Skiing Corporation.  Dick was a noted ski film maker.
