Freda Langell Nieters - Inspiration - 2009
Freda Langell Nieters is honored for her work as an instructor/coach and fundraiser for ski-related charities. She was a Norwegian National and Olympic skier who came Colorado in 1962 to share her knowledge of skiing; first as a coach at Winter Park Eskimo Ski Club, and for the last 40 years she has taught at Keystone and A-Basin Ski Schools. During her racing career Freda was a stand out on the Master’s Ski Racing Circuit winning gold in the downhill and giant slalom at the National Masters Championships in 1984. In recent years, Freda has channeled her boundless energy towards fundraising. She has helped many deserving ski-related charities including Race for the Lights, the Special Olympics, Ski for SIDS and the Jimmie Heuga Vertical Express. Funds raised through her efforts total over $250,000.
